Gimmal sponsors IT Award to received by Carnegie Mellon University's Dynamics team

Houston, TX – May 6, 2009 – Gimmal Group, a leading professional services firm, participated in the international Rice Business Plan Competition.  The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University in Houston, Texas hosted the 9th annual event on April 16-18. The inaugural event in 2001 hosted 9 teams who competed for $10,000 in prize money and this year it grew to 42 teams from around the world competing for more than $800,000 in cash and prizes.  The teams vie in the categories of life sciences, information technology, energy and sustainability.

The purpose of the competition is to give collegiate entrepreneurs the opportunity to present elevator pitches and business plans to obtain funding to start their companies.  Gimmal executives, David Quackenbush, Mike Alsup and Cynthia Wood judged all the teams and helped select winners in each of the categories as well as the overall winner.  Gimmal was proud to present the inaugural Gimmal IT award to the Dynamics team from Carnegie Mellon University.  Dynamics also won the grand prize for their interactive credit and debit cards proposal.

“It was extremely fitting to have Gimmal join the competition to sponsor the award for the best IT company this year”, said Brad Burke, managing director, Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship.  “Gimmal is one of the most successful IT start-up companies in Houston, having landed on the Houston Fast Tech 50 for several years.  They have set an example of what many of these competitors aspire to become.”

“Gimmal had the pleasure of judging and personally awarding the Dynamics team from Carnegie Mellon University with the IT Award.  Our sponsorship of the award shows our interest in supporting emerging technologies in all fields and we are especially proud to support collegiate endeavors in our hometown,” said David Quackenbush, President, Gimmal Group.
