Lark Technologies from MIT wins Gimmal IT Award

Houston, TX – April 29, 2009 – Gimmal Group, a nationally recognized consulting, technology services and solutions firm, participated in the international Rice Business Plan Competition.  The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship in Houston, Texas hosted the 10th annual event on April 15-17. The inaugural event in 2001 hosted 9 teams who competed for $10,000 in prize money and this year it grew to 42 teams from over 420 entities competing for $1 million in cash and prizes.  The teams competed in the categories of: life sciences, information technology, energy, green tech, social and other technologies.

The purpose of the competition is to give collegiate entrepreneurs the opportunity to present elevator pitches and business plans to obtain funding to start their companies.  Gimmal executives, David Quackenbush, Mike Alsup and Cynthia Wood judged all the teams and helped select winners in each of the categories as well as the overall winner.  Gimmal was proud to present the Gimmal IT award to Lark Technologies from MIT.

“This competition is an amazing event to be a part of and Gimmal was delighted to once again sponsor and judge all the business plans and elevator pitches.  Supporting events like this gives us a real opportunity to give something back and learn something at the same time,” said David Quackenbush, President, Gimmal.

“We were pleased to have Gimmal participate in the event again this year. Leading businesses such as Gimmal bring a unique perspective and knowledge that these entrepreneurs value”, said Brad Burke, managing director, Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship.
